Tenerife

Tenerife is one of the more well known islands that make up the Canary Islands, situated off the coast of Africa. It is a volcanic island that is simply stunning, allowing you to view endless species of flora and fauna set against beautiful rock and water landscapes. It is the largest island of all seven and therefore holds certain important government institutions and the Islands’ main university, La Laguna University.

This island enjoys warm weather all year round, which helps to make Tenerife one of the major tourist spots in the world. It is separated into 31 main municipalities and includes an unusual mix of climates separating the north and south ends of the island by luscious and humid weather in the north end and dry weather in the south.

Why visit Tenerife ?

Tenerife location iamge - CruiseDirection

Warm weather all year round

A volcanic island that is simply stunning

The highest point of the island is Mount Teide which reaches a little over 3,700 meters above sea level. This is also a popular spot for tourists, and Tenerife has thrived off of tourism, which has helped to develop its infrastructure. There are many visitors that come every year, adding to its nearly 900,000 person population. However, the south of the island normally sees more visitors than its northern counterpart.

Considering the south’s dry weather, it makes it the perfect place to go to the beach all year round. Some of the most popular beaches to explore in Tenerife include the playa de las Americas and La Playa de los Cristianos. However, these beaches are highly developed making them more commercialised and unfocused on Tenerife’s natural beauty. A law has therefore been enforced where no further buildings may be erected unless they are of supreme quality and offer unique features which the island’s hotels do not already have.

These beaches include a variety of water activities such as surfing, swimming, sailing, snorkelling, scuba diving and much more. The fresh and clean waters of Tenerife make any water activity enjoyable. Due to the ocean breeze the island is always kept cool, even on the hottest summer days. However, do not think that you have to spend your entire vacation on the beach, there is much more for you and your family to discover.

Tenerife is great for multiple activities; you can take a day off from sightseeing to play an 18 hole round of golf or visit one of the many shopping centres. If you are looking to take your child on an adventure than you can take him or her to the water parks and animal zoo parks that are on the island. The southern part of Tenerife is composed of younger travellers or those with families who have many desires to explore the different activities that the south of the island offers.

The north of Tenerife has also been converted into a great tourist destination. However, it is lower key and more focused on the lush, natural surroundings of the green region. There are many older travellers who come to this region to take in its serene and tranquil atmosphere and landscapes.
