The gateway to all the major theme parks

The second busiest port in the world, moving around 4.5 million cruise passengers through its gates every year

For an educational experience, do not miss out on a visit to the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, where you can view NASA’s past, present and future. If you are really lucky, you may even get to see a rocket launch. The nearby U.W. Astronaut Hall of Fame has self-guided tours. The Canaveral National Seashore and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge covers almost 200,000 acres and is home to approximately 500 different species of animals and birds. Among the residents that you can expect to see in this preserve are alligators, giant sea turtles and migratory birds.

Port Canaveral’s Jetty Park’s beach allows families to swim and surf, to cruise the boardwalk, try the fishing pier or take advantage of the campsites. Sunny beaches cover over 72 miles of Florida’s Space coastline, which form part of Brevard County. This coast has 100 of the best surf spots on the East Coast and Cocoa Beach, which became famous because of “I Dream of Jeannie”, is just a short drive from Port Canaveral. Shop in the historic Cocoa Village near Port Canaveral or at one of the many malls. For relaxation, try a round or two of golf at one of the many courses along the coast.

A popular sport, in Port Canaveral, is fishing. Anglers of all skill levels can try to hook the Spanish mackerel, snook, drum or other hard-to-catch sport fish. Fishing can be done off a pier, on a rented or chartered boat, on the Canaveral Barge Canal, Canaveral Lock or on the Banana River, which is an intercoastal waterway system.

Dine on the waterfront and eat fish fresh from the sea or maybe try a Caribbean style restaurant, a bistro or a steakhouse. The Cove is a recreational area on the waterfront, filled with restaurants, shops, lounges, charter boats and a casino ship.

Port Canaveral is home base to nine cruise ships. Cruises mainly make voyages to the Bahamas and around the Caribbean. Two ships are actually floating casinos and they set sail twice a day. In addition, Port Canaveral is only 55 miles from the city of Orlando, which is the location for Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld.

Port Canaveral is the entryway to numerous activities and many memories can be made on a cruise ship or on a beach, all you have to do is decide.
