Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is a fast growing tourist destination with lots of fun to offer holiday makers. It is a city to one of the smallest Islands and countries in the world: Monaco, which carves its niche on the Mediterranean Sea. Monaco measures less than one square mile and is world famous for its gambling activities. Monte Carlo, Monaco’s only city has developed from a secluded tiny Island into one of Europe’s leading tourist resorts. Approximately 32,000 people live in Monaco and the official language is French.

The history of Monaco has it that the Grimaldi family actually purchased the Island from the Genoese sometime in the early 14th century. They had been in control of the city after establishing a new government and the Grimaldi family were key to the development of the Island in 1297. Gambling and tourism is a way of life in Monaco, and it is little wonder that Monaco is now home to many of the richest people in the world. Having about 370 acres of landscape, only smaller ships now dock at the port of Monte Carlo. From romantic gateways to family vacation hot spot to business trips, Monte Carlo plays host to millions of visitors from around the world year in year out.

Lots of fun to offer holiday makers

World famous for its gambling activities

There are numerous ways of having fun in Monaco’s Monte Carlo. With lots of sightseeing, there is never a dull moment in this wonderful Island. For proof of the attractions that abound, you’ll be amazed to see sights like an Opera and Ballet house as well as the Ballet de Monte Carlo’s headquarters, popularly known as the Grand Théâtre de Monte Carlo. The country first brought the world’s attention to itself when a popular film actress, Grace Kelly, married Prince Rainier III.

The destination, now renowned for its unmatched natural beauty, offers amiable sights like the villas of Cap Ferrat and Beaulieu, Antibes, Eze and St. Paul de Vence. You’ll find nice parks with striking fountains, turquoise waters and statutes. Inside one of the parks is the famous casino where gaming freaks are sure to relive memorable gambling moments. The second week of May sees Monte Carlo welcome guests from all walks of life. This is because of Monaco’s hosting of Le Grand Prix de Monaco, a motor racing event.

During your stay in Monte Carlo, try visiting the Island’s old town where you’ll find the site of The Rock. The Rock houses the Cathedral where Princess Grace was buried just behind the church’s altar. There, you’ll also find the Palace, Royal Houses and Gardens among other things. A very lovely sight at The Rock is the Musée de l’Océanographie, one of the best aquariums in Europe. Located some distances away from the port of Monte Carlo is the Larvotto Beach. You could choose to unwind at the beach as well as enjoy the various beach games on offer.

Monte Carlo’s climate and weather conditions feature low summer temperatures of between 65°F/75°F (18°C/24°C) and afternoon highs of between 75°F/85F° (18°C/29°C). Monte Carlo experiences lots of sunshine in the summer.
