Memphis

Situated on the Mississippi river in southwestern Tennessee, Memphis is the largest city located along the river and the second largest in the state.

One of the most historical and culturally significant cities in the Southern USA, Memphis has been fought over by the Spanish, French and British in bygone eras due to its significant location on one of the mightiest rivers in North America. The evidence of these past occupiers can be seen over the city that stands today which in fact founded in 1819 by three prominent Americans.

Memphis attracts music lovers and foodies from around the world almost like religious sites attract pilgrims. The allure of the blues guitars on Beale street and the culinary delights of smoky pulled pork and dry-rubbed ribs are what make many head to this eclectic metropolis. The Elvis fans flock in their droves to Graceland, the former mansion home of the famous actor and singer which today is a public museum and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a declare National Historic Landmark. Graceland is the second most visited house in the USA and second only the White House.

Historical Memphis was one of the largest cities in the Antebellum South prominent in the sale of Lumber and the American Slave trade. After the America civil war in 1865 the city grew exponentially and became a world leading trader of lumber and also cotton.
