Madeira

Madeira is a Portuguese island off of the coast of North Africa. It is a spectacular island that is enjoyable to visit all year round. There are incredible amounts of natural beauty here, including crystal blue waters, sandy white beaches, majestic mountains and gorgeous flora and fauna. If you are looking for a vacation spot a little out of the ordinary and exquisitely beautiful, than Madeira is the island for you.

This island is blooming year round. Even the winter is pleasurable, since the worst weather that it may endure is a slight rainfall. Otherwise, it is warm and sunny year round and it is kept cool by delightful ocean breezes. However, every once in a while there may be winter storms where the waters become rough and choppy. If you are planning on sailing, surfing, fishing and participating in any other water activity it is best to go during the summer season.

Why visit Madeira ?

A spectacular island

There are incredible amounts of natural beauty here, including crystal blue waters, and sandy white beaches

There is plenty to explore on the island of Madeira; be sure to visit the Botanical Gardens on the island to see all of the flora and fauna. You could combine this trip with a trip to the Natural History Museum since it is right inside of the Botanical Gardens. Another place to stop by is Nun’s Valley, or in Portuguese the Curral das Freiras. Here you will see lots of different vegetation and chestnut trees.

This island is basically covered in green. If you move out of the centre city nearly all of the villages and towns are covered in luscious green vegetation. This is especially true if you visit places like the small and quaint village of Camacha, the mountainous hillside of Boaventura, Montado dos Aviceiros and Rabacal.

Desert Islands are quite close by to Madeira. You could take a day trip to one of them to see the Monk Seals and seabirds. The waters are bright blue and like absolutely nothing you have ever seen before.

The City Square Hall in Funchal is a great place to pass the day if you are looking to see some local culture and history. There are colleges, art museums, cafes and unique architecture surrounding city hall.

If you are looking for a spectacular vantage point you should visit Ponta do Pargo which is in the west of the island. When you visit the lighthouse you will see a gigantic cliff which falls straight into the clear blue sea; it is absolutely breathtaking.

Another popular destination of tourists in Madeira is Porta Moniz which is right on the water. You will discover natural pools of water which were created by lava; different vegetation atmospheres from vegetables, fruits and vineyards and a quaint and humble church, the Santa Madalena Church.

No matter where you visit on this lovely island, you are sure to find a breathtaking picture or two. Madeira has been virtually untouched by pollution, so you are able to enjoy clear blue waters and crisp air while discovering the various spots that Madeira has to offer.
