Acapulco

Acapulco, an important sea port city, is located in Mexico and is the largest city in terms of its tourist population. It has a stunning atmosphere and is located on a bay surrounded by mountains. The city is accessible all the year round and has much to offer to the tourist. In the last few years it has been known as a major party city, especially for students on spring break.

Acapulco has much more history and culture to offer the tourist who is looking for something more profound. It is said that Acapulco is one of the first Mexican cities to be inhabited, since there are remains, such as pottery and artwork, found which date back to 3000 BC. Dating back to 1200 BC, one can find numerous petroglyphs and cave paintings.

Why visit Acapulco ?

Acapulco location iamge - CruiseDirection

The first inhabited Mexican city

Acapulco is one of the finest destinations in Mexico

One of the nicest places to go to in Acapulco is to the Veladero National Park where you will find 18 granite stones with various interesting engravings on them relating to anthropomorphism, zoomorphism and geometry.

Another scenic place to go is to the Quebrada Cliff Divers where you will see people diving off of cliffs into shallow and dangerous tide ridden waters.

If you are looking for culture then you want to visit Zócalo, which is on the Costera and has various places to walk along. You could visit the cathedral and try a variety of local cuisines. A beautiful place to soak in Acapulco’s nature is the Pie de la Cuesta. This is a piece of land bordered by the Laguna de Cuyoca and the Pacific Ocean. Here you will be able to see a major difference between the tranquillity of the lagoon and the dangerous waters of the Pacific.

If you want to avoid fellow tourists for the day, go to the Puerto Marquez which is a lot less touristy. It is a surrounded by a bay and has various places to sit around with friends in a local bar to chat. Of course, you could visit one of Acapulco’s finest beaches, for example playa Revolcadero, La Costera, Playa Caleta and Caletilla and Playa Langosta. Just make sure you remember your sun block, especially at midday when the sun is at its hottest.

Other fun places to go to while in Acapulco include CICI which is a water park, and the thermal water beaches in Ixtapan de la Sal which is close by to Acapulco, Barra Vieja and la Isla de la Roqueta. There are also hundreds of bars and restaurants to go to in Acapulco, and you will always be able to find the atmosphere that you are looking for.

Temperature-wise, Acapulco is pleasant all year round; there are constant breezes that come in from the bay to keep everything cool. There is a tropical climate here and so year round you will experience temperatures that range from warm to hot. The summer is normally very dry and sunny while the winter can be quite rainy and sometimes humid.
